The world is changing fast and we all need to keep up. The same goes for the world of martial arts. We have seen the impact the Internet has made on how we share and view information. That impact has just stepped up a turbo charged gear with the arrival of www.worldofmartialarts.tv or www.woma.tv
a mix of YouTube, proper BBC style TV and a martial arts television channel on your internet. The man behind it all is Will Henshaw.
Alan: So tell us, what is WoMa.tv or World of Martial Arts.tv?
WH: WoMA.tv is an on-line video service screening everything you ever wanted to know about any and all martial arts. Watch and learn the basics: how to punch, kick and throw. Explore the roots of your favourite martial art: our great tv content includes programmes on philosophy, medicine, culture and spirituality. Make and share your own playlists, swapping warm-up techniques, exercises and tricks of the trade. Whatever your style and however you came here – through the fighting, the fusion of mind and body, or simply through the films – there's a community for you at WoMA.tv.
Watch everything from Karate to Yoga, special forces training to spiritual exploration. Browse the site, and you'll soon discover that the World of Martial Arts is a place where very different people with very different interests rub shoulders...
Alan: How did it get started?
WH: The idea for a general martial arts based channel was born out of a frustration with traditional telly’s lack of interest in martial arts and the knowledge that a huge martial arts community, including me, was being ignored. In the initial stages in 2005 I looked at launching a satellite service but the cost and the growth of broadband quickly ruled that out.
After a few false starts choosing a name was easy, I wanted something that naturally encompassed everything and everyone around the globe, it kind of named itself; as in a world of martial arts television. I had a very clear idea that it had to be as much like proper telly, with all its good bits, as possible with all the best interactive parts of the internet too.
From that point on it was a case of assembling the team, working out what we wanted, what would work, actually doing it and then (the best bit) filming loads of martial arts and talking to tons of martial artists. The process wasn’t easy or quick but we are proud of the results, and hope that we have got it right for the martial arts community to take to their hearts.

WH: Switch between the channels using the tabs at the top of the page and browse through the playlists to find movies you want to watch; everything from Geoff Thompson to George Dillman, Steve Rowe to Dennis ‘Samurai on the Door’ Jones. When you find something that grabs you, just select a thumbnail or title to play the movie.
Watch individual movies from a playlist, or sit back and watch entire playlists from beginning to end. Tell others what you think of a movie by adding a comment or by rating it. Alan: How do you sign up and get started?
WH: It is easy, register TODAY and get My Stuff. My Stuff is your page to do with as you like. Let people know who you are and what you can do. We're constantly adding features to My Stuff, and we want to keep you up to date with the latest developments, so make sure you choose to receive the WOMA.tv newsletter.
From WoMA.tv's brilliant new video player, you can save to your channel any footage you find on WOMA.tv. Organise your movies into multiple playlists and publish them to share with others. Feature whole movies, or simply link to your favourite content. The main thing is you can play all your best videos whenever you want because they are already in your channel.
In addition, you can email your playlists or favourite movies to your friends. You can even link to movies from your own website or embed movies into your own website!
And there's more: with WoMA.tv's brilliant new video player, you can mix any footage you find on WoMA.tv to reflect your skills, interests, and philosophy.
Here's how REMIX works. When you find a movie you like, choose "Remix this movie" from the player menu, this places your chosen movie into "Your Remix" library. Select as many movies as you like.
Now visit 'My REMIX' to see thumbnails of all the movies you have chosen. Select a thumbnail to reveal its name, who made it, and other important information, including how often it's been remixed before.
Create your remix by clicking and dragging individual thumbnails into the timeline in whatever order you choose. You can re-position your movies as much and as often as you like. Add captions to any part of your remix: simply select 'Add/Edit Text' and choose the timecode at which you want the text to appear. You can also choose fonts, colours, styles and effects.
If you don't fancy having the whole of a movie in your remix, then you can select the clip you want. Choose a movie from the timeline and select "Trim clip". The movie will appear in a player. Play the movie, choose your in and out points, then select "trim". Your chosen clip replaces the movie in your timeline. You can make as many clips as you like, as often as you like – and you'll never get in a tangle, because the original movie is always available from your library.
When you are done being clever and creative, either preview your movie or publish it – you'll be asked to give it a name along with some other details. This movie will now appear in your channel.
There's a lot more to come: soon you'll be able to record voice-over, set audio levels, and have more than one remix on the go at the same time. Our newsletter will let you know when to expect advanced remix, so make sure you visit "My Account" and sign up to receive it!
