Strike and Submit have gone from strength to strength and this show was another step up in great fight match ups.
Pete Irving successfully defended his Strike and Submit European Title against another very dangerous opponent Daniel Weichel. Pete has been on winning form and has become a force to be reckoned with in the Welterweight division.
Each of his opponents in his last fights have all been the kind of guys that are used of winning!Which has made for some of the best MMA battles seen in the cage this year. This fight was again a pressure cooker fight. One mistake and the fight would swing to the other guy. So Pete showed off his skills on every level of this fight to take the win via a choke in the second round. Just as well, as I think most people where about to hyperventilate if they had to watch much longer!
Weichel was a top class opponent and it was easy to see that most guys would not have handled his excellent BJJ skills. But Pete Irving is not most guys and on this night he showed why. He must be at the door of the UFC after his display. Everyone in the UK MMA fight circles feel the same way. Cagewarriors forum is buzzing with news on Pete every time he fights.
Matt Inman is also set to be star. This was his Pro debut and he finished his opponent like a seasoned Pro. Matt connected with an elbow, which still hurts thinking about it! Then rain blows to finish the fight. He is one to watch out for, very impressive!
Martin ‘The Spartan’ Scrafton also is a star in the making, wining the Semi Pro Welterweight Title against a very tough Chris Noon. Martin started out kickboxing and has made a good transition to MMA. He finished the fight with an arm bar showing he is feeling at home in the cage.
This was a stacked event showing off the rising talent in the North of England! On another note much has been said about Neil Hall's excellent refereeing and it was true to say that did stand out on this show. All in all a great night for the sport of MMA.
