The Makotokai Tournament Experience
2
In Makotokai contests, the fights are of a single round of 2 minutes or 3 minutes.
The fights always result in a win, there is no draw.
Full contact bare-knuckle hand strikes and elbows to all areas apart from the head.
Full contact Knees and kicks to all areas including the head.
Makokai fights are stand-up contests only.
First fight: three minute duration
This first fight went all the way and lasted the three minutes. Mike relished it! He drove straight in, and blasted his opponent away a barrage of attacks. Jury judged in Mike’s favour.
Second fight: three minute duration
Mike’s second fighter seemed to be a little more able on his feet, but made the mistake of ‘backpedalling’ therefore giving Mike room to constantly steam into his centre. Jury gave Mike the fight.
Third fight: one minute duration
This was a swift fight in Mike’s favour finished by a high round kick to the opponent’s face.
Semi Final fight: Won by default
This semi final encounter went directly in Mike’s favour as the competitor decided not to fight.
Final fight: two minute duration
This final was fought against a training friend of Mike’s, and Mike lost it in the second minute after being knocked to the ground by a spinning heel kick to the side of the head. A great kick that was timed wonderfully.

Makotokai 4 0 1
All in all a good afternoon, Mike took the Silver and gladly gave credit to all who participated. Although he had doubts as to whether he would fight in the 2008 competition, preferring instead to find a different pond to experience.
